Civic Center Tree

The Civic Center Tree grew out of a relationship between the Olivette police chief and myself. The community had passed a bond issue to build a new Civic Center. The police chief had been a presence in the school for years and had seen the work the students had done to beautify our space. He asked if we could create a community piece unifying city workers, administrators, students, families and community members. The tree was already a city symbol and an obvious image to illustrate. We organized a week-long activity in the classroom with firefighters, police, administrators, and city workers to work alongside the students creating the "leaves" for our tree. Each leaf would represent themself or their connection to the community. We had two community days where the school was open to the public to come and create. All the leaves were fired and installed by myself and volunteers. The piece was a huge success and created a wonderful connection among the many layers of the Olivette community. The installation resides at 1140 Dielman Road, St. Louis, MO 63132, please go visit it is even better in person.

Five Oaks Playscape

The playscape installation was a recycle and new installation. The flower mosaics were created at my former school by my fourth grade artists. The school was being renovated and the flowers would be removed. In an effort to save them we designed a playful border around the playscape with additional mosaic landscape. The flowers are playful, engaging and tactile! A perfect environmental addition for a child centered space. The playscape is located at Five Oaks Community Center, 1200 Warson Road, Olivette, MO 63132

Stacy Park Community Mosaic

The Olivette Parks were getting a makeover and new patios and picnic pavilions were added. I was hired to create a community piece to beautify the bench surrounding the picnic pavilion at Stacy Park. We hosted several community days inviting community members to design and paint a tile that represents what the park means to them. All ages and abilities participated in our event! The piece was installed with additional mosaic pieces to fill in the spaces between the hand painted tiles. The work can be viewed at 9750 Old Bonhomme Road, Olivette, MO 63132

Private Commission

This tile frieze was inspired by a childhood memory of visits to trout stream. The tiles are hand painted and custom designed for the bathroom. The piece measures approx. 8 feet by 3 feet.
